Dinner/Concert for a Cause

Last Summer on our youth mission camp, we gave school supplies to those who were affected by Typhoon Sendong in Davao (Compostela valley and New Bataan in particular)  you can see the pictures HERE.

This time, we are giving school supplies to the victims of  Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan.

Part of the proceeds of this dinner for a cause will go for that ministry, why part? because this fundraising event was originally for our scholarship program but we agreed to share it to our people in Leyte and Tacloban.

It is just a simple dinner with music and some interpretative dance (no hercules dj or famous artist to perform) but I am sure it will be one good night.

Please do come and help if you want to share your Christmas blessings to us. Imagine what your 500.00 can buy, most probably like 12 notebooks, pencil, crayon, pad papers, ballpens and a lot more.

Reading Camp

Fishnets Ministry started this last year, the purpose is to help the kids aged 5-6 years old who have difficulty in reading specially those who are incoming grade one pupils. This is being held every summer. One of the kids in the reading camp last year was awarded "Best in Reading" in her class. Sweet fruit of our teacher's labor :)

This year, we have eight kids and I know they were taught properly. I just hope one of them receives an award again at the end of the school year. Kudos to our volunteer teachers. I know how hard it is to teach younger kids (with all the playing here and there, sometimes they even play with  hoist rings and boards) but they did manage well :) I am so proud of them!

Do you let your kids watch TV?

I am not yet a Mom but I have few nieces and nephews, all of them grew up watching tv. Now, in my yahoo group, there has been a lengthy discussion and exchange of ideas about the TV policy at home, the benefits and the downside of it. I still don't know what i would do if ever I become a parent but I am sure I can not eliminate TV at all in our home so I guess I would be in the "restricted tv time" side. But I really do not know. 

I also believe in the NO TV policy but that would mean no TV at all in your home right? 

Most of the Christian parenting books and articles I read (yes I read those even I am still not a parent) are on the no TV policy because they believe that TV has so much influence in a child and that it takes away the creativity in them. With TV, they don't need to imagine things anymore because it's there already. I have friends who let their kids watch tv and surprisingly they (the kids) also learn from it. 

Anyways, I will know what to do when I get there, for now,my husband and I enjoy watching tv together (which we very seldom do as we are not fond of télés series and mostly we open our tv to watch the news only)

Feeding Ministry

After the Run for a cause fundraising activity of the youth last Saturday, I had the chance to visit our feeding ministry in Pio Delpilar Makati. It's been a while since I last visited an area and I'm glad I did last Saturday. I took some photos and had a chat with the kids :) I pray these little ones will grow in the love of God and that they will have a much better life in the future.

It is also so good to see that we only not feed the kids but moms as well :) the food is more than enough for them. Thank you Lord for providing!

Our feeding ministry in this area is now on it's 2nd year. We've already established a bible study for mothers and more than 5 families are now attending church. Praise the Lord and to God be the glory!!!

Kids Christmas Party

Last Saturday was our first Christmas party for the kids that we minister to. And it was a special Christmas party because we doubled the fun by giving them also our Praisin' Kids Town event (mini-carnival fair) and it is very evident in each glowng face how the kids enjoyed it. Thank you everyone for supporting us and two more kids parties to go!

Carnival Fair & Christmas party for the kids!!

After the event for the scholarship program, here comes one major event for the kids in our ministry. It's their Christmas Party! and this time, it will be double fun because it's Praisin' Kid's Town also :) So it's like having a Christmas party on a carnival fair :)

I am so happy that as early as now, our regular supporters for this specific event have already affirmed their donations :) We will be giving toys and stuff for the kids! Praise God!! Indeed our God is good. He will bless these less fortunate kids through His many hands and that's all of us :)And I'm sure those who will extend their blessings will be blessed too!!

Hygiene Day for Urban Poor Kids

We will be having our yearly back to school hygiene day for kids we minister this coming Saturday. Actually it's a bit late this year, we usually do this before the school year begins but we have been occupied with so much the past few months :(

We will be giving each kid a hygiene kit that contains a toothbrush, toothpaste,shampoo, soap, cotton buds and a face towel.  We will also teach them proper hygiene, we will also offer BP checking and free blood sugar testing for their parents. Someday I am hoping we can give free services to pregnant women also like prenatal check ups and well, it would be good if we can have the the best baby monitor also. But our ultimate dream for now is to have the lying in clinic where poor moms can give birth with no expenses and safe.

Please pray that these kids will learn something and that they will feel God's love through this activity.

VBS 2011 The Lost World

This is what's keeping me busy (super) this month, last Saturday I attended the training with six of our young people who are being trained for Sunday School Teachers. We will have three VBS for LJBC outreaches this year so imagine how busy the teachers will be and so am I. Good thing I have delegated the tasks already. My hands are more than full this summer. In between those VBS I still have a wedding and a 7th birthday with only weeks apart. Do you think I still need a hcg shots for weight loss with those activities..nah.I think whether I like it or not I'll lose some weight this summer :)
